| Bio: | This journal was started in Feburary 2006 to document the 8 months I spent working as a DA (Dining Attendant)/GA (General Assistant) during the winter season at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Since then I've fallen in and out of first love, met the most fantastic people, lived through some hair-raising adventures, gone through the most gruesome, boring and depressing period of job-searching/unemployment my earlier naive self could never have imagined existed and gone through an all-around, headspinning change. This journal is still termed 'Antarctic Thoughts' or 'Post-Antarctic Thoughts' depending on my location, as Antarctica is where my adult life truly started and Antarctica is where my thoughts often return to. But until then... I'm working with the Forest Service during the American summers and then jumping back to Antarctica during their summers undertaking varying seasonal jobs. This hop-scotch of hemispheres could continue contentedly for a couple of years or either be interrupted by love, 'success', the changing weather, intuition or perhaps a lightning-bolt of inspiration that will show me how to wrap all my past hobbies, travels, experiences and exploits into the perfect challenging job in the future. My goal is to live, to learn, to laugh and to find that place in the world for me that will allow me to strive and do good. :) (and that's enough hokiness for now) Random Other: My screenname is rocks silivren: 'Rocks' is my highschool nickname. Silivrin means "glittering white snow" in Sindarin (Elvish). A leftover from my Tolkien phase and I think apt for Antarctica.
